IAEE sat down with Joe Cascio to learn more about his background in the public events sector.  Joe is the General Manager at the New Jersey Convention Center and the Garden State Exhibit Center and currently serves on the IAEE Public Events Council.

How long have you been an IAEE member?

I’ve been an IAEE member since 1995.  I can’t believe it’s already been 20 years!

How did you get your start in the exhibitions industry?

I started as a show producer running the 1995 Northeast Golf Sale and Expo.

What advice would you give a new IAEE member or person joining the exhibitions community?

The best advice I can tell new members is to get ENGAGED! Don’t be afraid to ask questions, attend meetings and events, and, most importantly, be more SOCIAL!!

What is the biggest challenge in running your show? And why?

I’ve always found that my biggest challenge has been managing our clients expectations. Some clients (show managers) envision success much different than the facility, it is up to us to manage and deliver realistic expectations over time to ensure long term growth and success.

Tell us a fun fact or story that most people would not know about you.

Prior to joining the team at the New Jersey Convention Center I was a Real Estate Salesperson managing my time and playing a lot of golf! The love of golf got me into this industry by producing a Golf Event which lends to my current position dealing with show producers.
